What are S.M.A.R.T. Goals and How Setting Them Helps Make Writing English Learning More Effective

How to set smart goals according to the SMART model Useful information

"Without goals, and plans to reach them, you are like a ship that has set sail with no destination." - Fitzhugh Dodson

It has been scientifically shown that setting specific goals increases the speed of learning at any age. Our brain is simply driven by goals - the more specific the goals, the easier it is for it to build ways to achieve and follow them.

The mind is like a heat-seeking missile. It locks onto the target and simply moves towards it, gradually, over time, faster and faster. Even when you sleep, your subconscious mind is working to get you closer to your goal.

Learning English without any crystal clear goals is like driving without a destination. If you just vaguely want to learn how to write well in English, that's a good goal, but it's not very specific. Your subconscious mind doesn't know exactly what it means to write well in English.

How to set smart goals according to the SMART model

SMART Goals (IDAO) are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound.

The correct goals are necessarily specific and measurable, such as passing the A2 English Proficiency Test with a 70% mark. Or also an option - to successfully study salsa to a certain level, only in English-speaking classes.

Achievable means that you are able to achieve it - the goal must be difficult enough to be exciting, but not too difficult, otherwise it may demoralize you. This means that if you want to learn to speak English, do not aim for the grammar test. Strive to pass the speaking test.

And with a time limit means setting a goal for 3 months or 6 months

It is a good idea to learn all about IELTS European Common System for English Language Learners to help you choose your goals. Or any other level testing framework you want. It doesn't matter as long as you have some way to measure your progress.
